3rd Sunday of Lent
“Stop turning My Father’s house into a market.” John 2:16
Liturgical colour: PurpleFor grown-ups
This Sunday, God gives his people the Ten Commandments, and Jesus walks into the Temple and overturns the tables. At first these may seem unrelated, but both are about love. The commandments are God’s way of keeping us close to him and to each other, and Jesus’ zeal for his Father’s house shows how much he cares that nothing gets in the way. Paul adds that the cross looks foolish to the world, yet it is God’s own wisdom.
Every home has a bit of clutter in it, both the physical kind and the kind that crowds out time for God: screens, rushing, worry. Jesus’ action is not about anger for its own sake. He is clearing space so there is room for his Father. This week, you might ask what could be gently tidied away, together as a family, so that prayer and each other have more room. Small and honest changes are enough.
