2nd Sunday of Lent
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him.” Mark 9:7
Liturgical colour: PurpleFor grown-ups
This Sunday gives us two mountains. On one, Abraham is asked to give up the son he loves, and God stops his hand, showing that he will provide. On the other, Jesus shines with glory before Peter, James and John, and the Father says, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” Paul gathers it up: if God is for us, who can be against us? The hard road of Lent is walked with a God who is on our side.
Family life has its own mountaintops and valleys. There are bright moments, like a quiet bedtime story or a hug that comes unasked, and there are long, noisy evenings. Peter wanted to stay on the mountain, but Jesus led his friends back down to ordinary life. We, too, carry those bright moments into the daily work of listening, to God and to each other. This week, try to listen well, especially to your children.
