2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Come and see.” John 1:39
Liturgical colour: GreenFor grown-ups
This Sunday is about being called, and answering. In the first reading, young Samuel hears a voice in the night and, with Eli’s help, realises it is God. In the Gospel, two disciples follow Jesus and ask where he is staying, and his reply is gentle and simple: “Come and see.” Then Andrew runs to fetch his brother Simon.
Nobody here is lectured into faith. Samuel needs Eli to help him understand what he is hearing, and Simon needs Andrew to bring him along. At home, that is often our role: not having every answer, but inviting our children to come and see. Sit with them in a quiet church, pray together at bedtime, and point out God’s goodness in ordinary moments. Children learn to listen for God by watching us listen, and they will often surprise us by being the ones who hear first.
