Saint of the week · the week of 11 April
Saint Martin I
a brave pope who stayed faithful to Jesus even when it was hard · feast day 13 April
Martin was a pope, the leader of God's family on earth, long ago in Rome. Some powerful people wanted him to say things about Jesus that were not true. Martin said no. He kept teaching exactly what the Church had always taught. Because of this, he was taken far away from home and treated very unkindly. He was sick and hungry, but he never stopped trusting God. Martin gave his life for Jesus, and he teaches us to tell the truth, even when it is hard.
Did you know? Martin is the last pope to be honoured as a martyr, and he held a big meeting of bishops in Rome, called the Lateran Council, in the year 649.
Be like Martin: Tell the truth this week, even when it feels hard, and ask Jesus to help you be brave.
Saint Martin, pray for us!
