Saint of the week · the week of 13 December
Saint Lucy
a girl whose name means light · feast day 13 December
Lucy lived in Sicily, an island in Italy, a long time ago, when it was dangerous to be a Christian. She loved Jesus with all her heart and gave her riches to help poor families. Lucy would not give up her faith, and she gave her life for Jesus. Her name means “light”, and her feast comes in the darkest part of the year in Europe, when we are waiting for Jesus, the Light of the World.
Did you know? In Sweden, on Saint Lucy’s day, girls wear white dresses and crowns of candles and bring buns to their families.
Be like Lucy: Be a little light: cheer up someone who is sad.
Saint Lucy, pray for us!
