Saint John of God

John was born in Portugal. When he was young he was a shepherd and a soldier, and he did not always live close to God. Then one day he heard a sermon that changed his heart. In the city of Granada, in Spain, he opened a house where he cared for sick and poor people, carrying them in from the streets on his back. Friends joined him, and today his brothers still run hospitals all over the world.
