Saint of the week · the week of 4 April
Saint John Baptist de la Salle
a priest who started schools so poor boys could learn · feast day 7 April
John was born in France long ago. He became a priest, and he saw that many poor boys had no school. So John gathered teachers and started new schools for them. He taught lessons in French, the words the children spoke at home, so everyone could understand. John believed that teaching is a way of loving God and children. Today, his Brothers run schools all around the world.
Did you know? Brothers who follow his way run schools in Singapore, including St Joseph's Institution, and he is the patron saint of teachers.
Be like John Baptist: Help a friend or a brother or sister learn something new this week, and be patient and kind while you teach.
