Saints Cyril and Methodius

two brothers who brought the Bible to new lands · feast day 14 February

Cyril and Methodius were brothers from Greece. They travelled to faraway countries to tell people about Jesus. The people there spoke a language that had no letters to write it down, so the brothers made up a whole new alphabet! Then they wrote the Bible and the prayers of the Mass in the people’s own language, so everyone could understand God’s Word.

Did you know? The alphabet used in Russia and many other countries today is called Cyrillic, after Saint Cyril.

Be like Cyril and Methodius: Learn a prayer in another language, like “Amen” or “Alleluia” in Chinese, Malay or Tamil.

Saints Cyril and Methodius, pray for us!
