2nd Sunday of Advent
“Prepare a way for the Lord, make His paths straight.” Mark 1:3
Liturgical colour: PurpleFor grown-ups
This Sunday we meet John the Baptist, the messenger Isaiah promised, calling from the wilderness to prepare the way of the Lord. John’s message is simple: turn back to God, say sorry, and make room. Isaiah adds a tender picture of God as a shepherd who gathers the lambs in His arms, and St Peter reminds us that God is patient with us, giving us time to be ready.
Preparing a way at home can be very practical. Clear a little space on the shelf for the Nativity set, tidy a corner together, or make up after an argument before bedtime. Saying sorry and forgiving each other is how a family makes the paths straight. Children learn it best when they see parents do it too, so let them hear you say sorry first, and let Advent be a fresh start.
